Sail Caribbean Tropical Marine Science Instructor Bahamas

Length of Position: 1-2 months
Dates: June 15-August 1

Description: The Marine Biology Instructor/Trip Leader at Sail Caribbean lives with three other staff and 15-20 high school aged teenagers on our marine science and conservation programs in Eleuthera, The Bahamas. Marine Biology instructors co-lead students through our tropical marine science curriculum through seminars, group research projects, scuba diving, discussions and activities associated with the missions of The Island School and Cape Eleuthera Institute. Instructing skills must be outstanding and should be approached with creativity.

Additionally, Marine Biology Instructor/Trip Leaders will assist in leading kayaking and camping trips, community service activities, and group dynamics as well as logistics and behind-the-scenes work. This position is rigorous but very rewarding and requires a strong dedication to the students and the goals of the program.

Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelors Degree in marine biology, ecology, or related field
- Experience teaching marine biology/ecology, labs, field survey techniques, to teenagers in an interactive setting, special consideration given to experience in residential or camp settings
- Scuba Certification
- Wilderness First Aid (WFA) and CPR certifications required prior to arrival on Eleuthera, Wilderness First Respond (WFR) certification strongly preferred
- Experience in applying Leave No Trace principles in a backcountry or marine environment
- Outstanding references

Strongly Preferred:
- Divemaster or Dive Instructor certification
- Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or EMT certification strongly preferred
- Experience teaching watersports (snorkeling, small boat sailing, and kayaking)
- Community service experience
- Leave No Trace Educator Certification

Salary / Pay: Sail Caribbean staff members are paid at a competitive weekly rate that is commensurate with experience. In addition to that salary, room and board, staff apparel, and travel reimbursement up to $500 are included. First year staff members are not paid during the week of staff training. Returning staff have opportunities for leadership roles.
