Description:
Scuba Instructors/Trip leaders at Sail Caribbean live with two to three other staff and 10-15 high school aged teenagers on our marine science and conservation programs in Eleuthera, The Bahamas. Dive instructors are responsible for delivering PADI Open Water and Advanced Open Water courses, and recreational diving. Additionally, Scuba Instructors/Trip Leaders assist in leading students through all aspects of the programs including the Sail Caribbean curriculum, marine research projects, hiking, kayaking and camping trips, community service, and group dynamics. As a smaller program, all staff are closely connected to the logistics and execution of the program and are involved in behind-the-scenes work such as food preparation or picking up students at the airport. This position is rigorous but very rewarding and requires a strong dedication to the students and the goals of the program.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years college experience, coursework in marine biology, ecology, or related fields preferred - Expertise and extensive experience in diving instruction - OWSI with teaching experience; must be able to teach the following specialties Underwater Naturalist, AWARE Fish Identification, Deep Diver - Current professional insurance and active status PADI Membership - DAN 02 Instructor or Provider - Emergency First Response Certification - Substantial experience working with teenagers in an educational, athletic, or camp setting, with special consideration given to residential (sleep-away) experience - Wilderness First Aid (WFA) and CPR certifications required prior to arrival on Belize - Excellent leadership and mentoring skills Other Considerations for SCUBA Instructor/Trip Leader: - Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or EMT certification strongly preferred - Experience teaching marine science or ecology strongly preferred - Experience teaching watersports (small boat sailing, and sea-kayaking) - Volunteer and community service experience - Leave No Trace Educator Certification
Salary / Pay: Sail Caribbean staff members are paid at a competitive weekly rate that is commensurate with experience. In addition to that salary, room and board, staff apparel, and travel reimbursement up to $500 are included. First year staff members are not paid during the week of staff training. Returning staff have opportunities for leadership roles.
