Description:
The work involves the maintenance of intruder alarms, access control systems and CCTV systems and some installation work.You will be getting the opportunity to work for an owner/operator who has been in the security industry for over 20 years. This business has built up an extremely high reputation within the industry that they are very proud of and work hard to maintain. Tasks & duties Security systems technicians may do some or all of the following: - discuss security needs with clients - advise on materials and costs - install and test security systems - service and repair existing equipment - order replacement parts - keep up to date with new products and developments.
Highlights:
Salaries vary, but security systems technicians usually earn between $25,000 and $40,000 per year. Senior technicians may earn up to $60,000 per year depending on their qualifications, experience and the success of the business they work for. The outlook for security systems technicians is good and the number of people employed in this occupation is expected to increase moderately over the next two to three years.This is mainly due to an increased awareness among the public of the need for security, resulting in a rise in demand for the installation of alarm systems for home and personal protection. Modern Apprenticeships have been introduced into the security industry, which is encouraging employers to employ apprentices and train them to be security systems technicians. Prior to this, there had been a lack of apprentices entering the role, which resulted in a shortage of skilled and experienced technicians.
Qualifications:
Previous experience in the Security Industry is not required but a technical and/or electrical background would be an advantage. Appropriate training will be provided to the successful candidate. Candidates must have a spotless criminal background and a current drivers license. Extensive background checks will be carried out on those who are short-listed. The successful candidate will need to be able to work totally unsupervised, be fit and energetic, be able to deal one-on-one with clients, have good customer skills, be well organised, maintain a good personal appearance and be extremely neat and tidy in their work. Skills & knowledge Security systems technicians need to have: - good electrical installation and wiring skills - knowledge of electronics and the regulations for electrical circuits - good practical and technical skills, including the ability to use computer systems - knowledge of construction methods and materials for residential and commercial buildings - good communication skills - maths skills - decision-making ability.
