Description:
Though a travel job sounds like fun--simply choosing the best sights to see and places to eat--it's actually very demanding and great responsibliity. First, it's a job that calls for a detail-oriented mind. It's up to the travel guide to meet the group at the airport, to check people in and out of hotels, coordinate sightseeing and transportation, help with currency exchange, take over in emergency medical situations, and in general try to make sure that their group has a comfortable, enjoyable experience. Because travel guides are dealing with groups of people, it can be a bit like perpetually planning a major event. In addition, travel guides have to remain pleasant and personable, even when dealing with hard-to-please people who aren't always so nice. When luggage gets lost, people get sick, planes are late and busses break down, travel guides must remain helpful, polite and calm, and handle the problem competently. When travel guides are running an adventure tour, they need to be both highly-skilled in the activity the tour involves and extremely safety-conscious to prevent students from getting hurt. Travel guides need to be highly responsible in following the itinerary and keeping the group on schedule. Every tour must be have effective on-site teaching from a Christian perspective.
