Description:
The current projects focuses on studying the reintroduction and subsequent impact of large predators and Elephant. The ultimate objective is to develop practical recommendations on more effective game management for implementation in Edeni and other small reserves. Study species comprise of Lion, Spotted Hyena, Leopard, Wild Dog and Cheetah with a particular focus on feeding ecology and intra guild competition Research methodology employs the use of telemetry, GPS, observation, game counts and vegetation transects. The position open is as expedition staff, whose role will be to assist in managing and planning research activities, data basing information, writing reports and possible publications. The Staff also have a role which covers work scheduling; leading research drives; observation, recording and quality control of data; coaching and training volunteers; maintenance of vehicles/equipment and efficient management of camp logistics. Conditions All food, accommodation, equipment and essential transport provided plus competitive salary and flight contribution. Own insurance has to be provided. Hours are long, with a day and a half off per week, and 4 weeks per year holiday. Conditions are basic but comfortable. The diet is healthy and staff are expected to join Expedition Members in camp duties such as cooking, base cleaning, maintenance of base and vehicles. Edeni Game reserve, Limpopo province, south Africa. Edeni Game Reserve covers 9,000 Ha (soon to be 15000ha) of mixed Bushwillow and riverine bushveld located 20km from Hoedspruit between the Klein Drakensberg range and the Blyde River Canyon in the Northern Province Venetia Game Reserve, Limpopo Province South Africa. The reserve covers 30,000Ha of true wild african bushveld on the boarders of Zimbabwe and Botswana.
Qualifications:
Science degree background preferred with experience in mammal monitoring. Extensive experience of working in big five area and minimum of THETA local guides qualification, SA government recognised rifle proficiency, Public Drivers Permit (PDP) license test and experience in 4 X 4 driving are essential. Additional Viewing potentially dangerous game preferred qualification. Pro-activity, self-motivation, flexibility and excellent people skills are essential as are the preparedness to work flexible hours and operate happily and effectively within a communal living environment.
