Length of Position: Fulltime , Permanent
Description:
A number of positions are available in New Zealand in varied roles. Some of the best, cleanest and unpolluted water tables in the world are right here. (Why do we import Evian anyway?) The outlook for water engineers is good and job numbers are expected to increase over the next two to three years. Turnover among water engineers is low, and people employed as water engineers in New Zealand tend to stay happily in the same job for long periods.
Highlights:
New Zealand has a lot of work related to flood prevention schemes, new water systems and replacing existing water systems. A greater awareness of the need to care for the environment and the relationship between humans, engineering and the environment has resulted in a growing need for this occupation. In addition, increased pressure on the environment from human activities means that natural resources engineering is becoming increasingly important in the development of sustainable lifestyles within growing communities. Natural resources engineers' focus may change. Natural resources engineers are concerned with sustainability so their projects are often long term, and the results are not always immediately obvious. However, their projects are important to the sustainable use of resources and to the growth of the New Zealand economy. The focus of natural resources engineers may change as they increasingly work with people from other disciplines such as ecologists, geologists, horticulturalists, agriculturalists and social scientists. Their skills add to the pool of talent that planners and councils can draw on to ensure liveable communities.
Qualifications:
For Waste Water or Water treatment staff, we would be looking for a substantial (5 years +) experience in municipal water or waste water treatment or associated Networks activities. Additionally the candidate would need to have no criminal record, a clean international driving license and excellent english skills. In terms of water specific qualifications, we would expect candidates to be a grade 4 or grade 5 operator. We would not entertain candidates who we could not interview face to face. While this may limit the potential pool of applicants - it is seen in New Zealand as effectively a test of the commitment of the individual and their initiative. For Engineers, we would require the basics outlined above and additionally that they were able to show: a) The completion of a recognised engineering degree taught entirely or substantially in English. (if not entirely in English, IELTS tests would apply) b) Completion of at least 5 years practical experience in water related engineering management. Immigration assistance is available for the right candidates.
